Working in Danville
Current resident and have lived here for 2+ years. I WOULD move here if I had to do it over. Not a perfect city by any means, but moving in the right direction from what I can tell. Crime is an issue, but has decreased over the past 2 yrs and downtown is undergoing an intense revitalization, with new shops and restaurants added monthly. Pros: No traffic, low cost of living, most citizens I meet are caring and respectful, plenty of safe neighborhoods to live in, tasty restaurants (but restaurant diversity is lacking) , burgeoning downtown, great farmers market, close to mountains and numerous outdoor activities Cons: Limited high paying jobs, crime, city public education has bad reputation, flat housing market.
Danville is the epitome of southern hospitality. It is virtually impossible to inhabit any space here without receiving several greetings from people ranging in all ages. Although, if you happen to be here long enough, you will soon realize the politeness is just a well done facade to mask the underlying judgement of anything that does not remind them of themselves. With that being said, much like diamonds in the rough, there are many incredible people and things you can experience here that make a visit to Danville all worth it.
I moved to Danville, Virginia from Austin, Texas. I was nervous about moving so such a small town, but I quickly developed friendships with some coworkers and others. They've been amazing to me helping me find my first apartment, getting enrolled back into school at Liberty University in the fall of 2017. I am vegan, I was skeptical that such a southern town would not have vegan options, but all of the restaurants and grocery stores have been amazing. Also, I am proud to say I've found my first apartment in this lovely town, it's absolutely beautiful, the staff is great and I will be moving in, in February. Did I mention the downtown area is beautiful! There are some amazing Bistro restaurants, antique shops, and various other small shops downtown that are definitely worth visiting. Danville, is an awesome little town that has potential and is growing everyday! I plan to live here for a while due to the amazing people and great experiences so far, thank you Danville, Virginia.
