Cottonwood Reviews

My husband & I have lived here for a little over a year. We both work from the house we built & are almost retired, as are most of the people moving/building here. Prices for land & homes have skyrocketed! It's a beautiful place BUT what is really spoiling it is the constant small airplane noise from the piolet training & the possible airport expansion to accommodate more small jets. You can't escape the noise from the low-flying planes no matter where you are in the area! I know of some who have moved because of the plane noise, and we may, too!
I've lived in Cottonwood for 9 years now. I'm 39 years old and I would be considered young by cottonwood standards. Most the people here are a lot older and ver very conservative. Heard the saying "they roll up the streets at 8pm" well, Cottonwood has most towns in America beat by hours. Everything, everything is closed by 6 or 7pm so if you are looking to go out to eat you better go before that. Even on saturdays! I have lived all over America and cottonwood is one of my least favorites. People say we have mild summers!? No. It's unbearable. And usually only have swamp coolers that are bo help. There is literally nothing to do here. No theater, a couple bars. That's it. Do yourself a favor and go to Flagstaff. It's where I'm going next year and at least there's tons to do there. I'm always bored to tears here which is why everyone else has turned to drugs and crime here. Meth is out of control here.
Cottonwood is a beautiful place to live. Beautiful Sedona is only 20 minutes away, which is great for hiking but far enough away that Cottonwood isn't affected by heavy tourist traffic. The Old Town area is great -- wineries, specialty shops and incredible restaurants! There are amazing hiking trails right here in Cottonwood, and the school system is wonderful -- lots of choices for either public education or Waldorf school format. People are generally very caring and we have a mix of super spiritual people, or completely grounded, or middle of the road. Weather is wonderful, but it gets a little hot July through September. We just stay inside in the afternoons, and by evening it's cool enough to sit outside and enjoy the hot tub. Cottonwood has a dearth of musicians and artists here so there's always something to see on the weekend and great local bands to dance and listen to.
