Cookeville is such an adorable city! There are beautiful parks to go hiking, play disc golf with friends/family, and a nice assortment of restaurants to dine at. The residents here are some of the nicest people I've been blessed to know and hang out with. I highly recommend visiting this city; it will be worth the time spent.
Growing up in Cookeville, it has always been comforting to belong to a family-oriented, closely knitted community that is accepting to people of all walks of life. There are several career opportunities in Cookeville with amazing campus life at Tennessee Technological University. Cookeville's downtown area is very inviting with amazing food, breweries, boutiques and live music. Outside of the inner city there is much to do in the outdoors with several hiking and waterfall locations.
Pros:
-Potentially cheap housing (be careful of the slum-lords, like Soard, who prey on people who can't afford nice housing)
-Near some cool waterfalls
-TN Tech Campus
Cons:
-the town is dead during summer without students
-Kroger and Walmart both have less organic foods than the other Krogers and Walmarts
-traffic: the roads are laid out terribly, and you typically have to travel under the speed limits in town because of the poor lane design. The stop lights are also terribly programmed. :(
Biggest con: the predatory nature of SO many leasing agents here, knowing that certain people (like students) can't afford to take them to court when something goes wrong. It's not just Soard, either. Bernhardt (and one other I can't think of right now) seems like the only place in town to trust.
Essentially: don't move to Cookeville if you can only afford the sub-$1,000/month places. (there are plenty of them - but just don't!)
