Commack is a middle to upper middle class neighborhood and is large in square miles. As a result the more traditional sense of community is a lost. The absence of a centralized “town square” precludes people from congregating and having an opportunity to get to know one another by shopping or engaging in recreational activities in a concentrated area. The need to drive to get anywhere further limits exposure to those outside your immediate connected circle of relationships. Finally, given the size of the town there are numerous competing sources of community, multiple dance schools, karate studios, even multiple dunkin donuts and Starbucks, further limiting the ability to interact with your neighbors in a manner where you might come across them multiple times. All of this reduces a sense of community.

This is the only city I have lived in for all 16 years of my life. Out of those 16 years, I have been going to public schools for 13 and I have nothing to say but positives. Through school I have made incredible bonds with teachers, best friends, and my environment. At night there is so much to do we have any restaurant you can think of, such as Applebees to Tarominas. In my area you can bowl, dance, and swim. My house is only 1.5 miles from my high school, it is so convenient, if I miss the bus I can walk! There hasn't been any suspicious activity on my block lately. the only thing I would change is more security in the school, we only have about 10 security guards for the whole school of 2500 kids. there are many job opportunities available at all the local food stores, and the Commack soccer community is looking for referees that make about 20 dollars a game to start. I love this community and hopefully I can buy my own home here some day.
Commack is a wonderful town with a great school district. It's the perfect place to raise a family. The neighborhoods are safe, full of families, and surrounded by a supportive community. Youth athletics, school athletics, and other extracirricular activities are easy to get involved in and always filled with fun. Only 40 minutes from NYC and surrounded by beaches, great food, and tons of family friendly acitivities.
