I lived in Columbus, Nebraska for about 3 years. What can I say about Columbus, NE? It is a quiet, respectful, peaceful that I've known so far. It does have its pros and cons. My pros for Columbus is that it is growing. I've seen more buildings like hotels, few restaurants being built currently. Many new houses that are being constructed. Streets that are expanding, bridges being made due to train issues. Cons for Columbus is that it needs a mall. I get that people live an hour and a half from Omaha, but I feel like if the City of Columbus can build a Mall like Gretna or Von Maur type of deal. Columbus does have an outlet mall but its kind of boring. You don't see many people gathering around socializing. Another con is that Columbus needs bigger restaurants like Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Texas RoadHouse, or something that will get the peoples attention. They are currently building a Freddy's, but will the satisfy the people of Columbus?
I like how Columbus Is small and yet there are still things to do in town. Movies are expensive though. We have a very large Hispanic population that brings a culturally diverse population. There are lots of jobs available in Columbus because we have multiple large factories that operate within the City limits such as BD and Vishay and Valmont. There are not a lot of options for free community activities though, like thoughts in the larger cities. The only really big community event that is held every year in August is our Columbus Day weekend. Commute time is great. Traffic is nonexistent except for around the schools when they get out. There is no bus system in Columbus which is inconvenient, but the schools are pretty centrally located. Columbus is a nice place to live and have a family.
Columbus is a prosperous place with a small town feeling to it. It hosts a diverse, accomplished community that greatly supports small businesses in the area. Time can be well spent both indoors and outdoors, all within a small perimeter. Whether seeking fitness goals or entertainment facilities, they can be achieved in Columbus.
