Columbia Falls is super busy in the summer time. The traffic gets crazy, the speed limit jumps from forty- five to thirty-five to twenty-five and then back up to forty-five in the matter of seconds. It makes no sense. Why not just keep it forty-five or thirty-five all the way through? Also, the smell that leaks from the lumber mills is awful! It smells like sewage.
I've grown up here. It's not the best, though. It's very small and secluded, and pretty judgmental. There's no diversity, and it's not very accepting. People are excluded or singled out for not being a 'local', and it's very little. For reference, there's not even a McDonald's. There's nowhere to shop, and the closest 'city' is Kalispell, twenty-five miles away. It's still pretty small there, though, and stores are always closing. The mall currently has about twenty store spaces, but with only four, non-practical, stores open. (Zumiez, JCPenney's, Kay Jewelers, and a small, very expensive boutique that sells 'vintage' clothes, but the clothes are really just ruined). All in all, it's great, but if you're not from here, you will hate it. The only pro is no strangers, really safe, and it's only fifteen minutes away from Glacier Park. Also, the huckleberry picking opportunities are amazing, and the local restaurants often take advantage of it, but whatever they make is always delicious.
Great place to live! Close to skiing at Whitefish Mountain Resort, Glacier National Park, Flathead National Forest and the Flathead River. Nucleus Ave has great dining, bars and stores.
