Coeur d'Alene is definitely a sight to see. There is a vast amount of geological monuments to experience year-round. If this community didn't occupy so many younger children, it would surely be a vacation town. The biggest problem here is diversity. Obviously, the location of this town diminishes any sort of diversification of people. However, the negative mindset for more diverse inclusion is the drawback of a welcoming community. Due to the town's persistence to keep it preserved from migrators, we come to a brick wall. Even people of color who were born here, are excluded from the community as outsiders. This mindset controls our community and makes it unwelcoming. For the younger generation, this town isn't a place for growth and communion. I have experienced this all my life, and I must say it is restricting. I am a part of a small Hispanic population in Coeur d'Alene, and it is hard to find belonging. I share my knowledge with those who want to find diversity and inclusion.
CDA is a gorgeous city and there are a lot of activities to do, but recently there has been a large increase in population. This has led to the cost of living going up, longer commute times, and for housing market prices to soar. However, if you can afford it, it is a very beautiful place to live.
The ideal big city in my book, small enough to not have crazy congestion, and large enough to have attractions. I heard it was a lot smaller and more charming at one time, but for someone from a big city this is paradise. We love spending a day in "CDA" for a day when in the area for out doors activities. Lots of visitors and families from California, seems to be a common complaint but it's a very desirable area in terms of attractions, safe, and outdoors culture. It seems to be growing every time we visit but not too crazy. I didn't grow up there so I only see how it's been in recent years. Recommend reserving hotels months in advance.
I've lived in CDA my entire life, and we're selling our house and moving to North Carolina this year. I'm so sick of this place. There is almost no diversity here, no culture, and it's as white-washed as it gets. If you love trump, you'll fit right in. There are trump flags everywhere and people carrying AR 15's around in the grocery stores. The people are very xenophobic and do not welcome outsiders. They are downright nasty to people if they know they are from California, even though most Californians that move here are actually conservatives. It's embarrassing.
The winters are very, very cold and the summers are very hot and always extremely smokey. Art on the Green in August is always nice, and the scenery is beautiful. But this is a place to visit, not a good place to live. I have a special needs daughter and there are virtually zero services available to her and we have to drive an hour to Spokane to see a specialist. Very few paved trails/greenways to walk.

My parents bought a house near Sander’s Beach in 1987 for $48K. I saw that it was recently sold for nearly $500K. When I was a kid here, it was quiet and friendly, not much to really do but the outdoors were great. Later, I worked at Señor Froggy on Sherman (torn down now) and rented a one bedroom apartment just a few blocks away for only $400 a month. I left for good in 2006 because there was no opportunity and the winter is too cold. It’s also oppressively small minded. I can only imagine what it’s like now. I’m glad I lived there when I did, but I’d never go back.
Local population is being driven out by older consumers. Consumption outpaces Production. Restaurants packed to the brim with patrons being impatient. If you are a homeowner you can survive, but the rents have near doubled for renters. Schools are underfunded, but have good teachers. There is a certain level of divide...Far Right QaNon vs Republicans and it shows. The Redoubt movement is very real, the very mainstream media they despise also brainwashed them to be extremely hateful. An Idaho Conservative is no longer Conservative enough and local areas are seeing growth and traffic. There is a small niche of hope making traditions and history stay alive; revitalized museum, art walks, theater, etc. Unfortunately the community isn't as connected as it once was. Don't expect to be offered services, because soon they won't exist.
This is a resort town pretending to be a city. There are few jobs that pay more than minimum wage. Housing is overpriced. Schools are crap, teachers do the best they can with what they have. Colleges in Idaho aren't known for much. Outdoor life is good, summers are upper 90's, winters in the teens.
Lots of churches, a few megas buying land. VERY conservative. Lots of libertarian types.
Just got fiber, but no 5G yet.

I wouldn’t say this is the worst place to live, in fact I really used to love it and could’ve envisioned living here for the rest of my life. However, it’s gone through a lot of change over the years. The living costs have skyrocketed and the growing population made it lose its old sense of community. Residents are always mad and divided over something or another. So it basically all the small town drama without the old small town appeal. It’s great to visit though, summers are fair and there is a lot to do if you enjoy the outdoors. Hiking, boating, fishing, foraging, and more!
Coeur d'Alene is perfect. I do not have any complaints at all. The weather is a dream. It does get pretty cold but it is nice.
No places to live. Minimum wage is 7.25 an hour no person can live off.. more homeless people because of housing situation. More traffic then ever. Used to be an amazing place to live until everyone from California started moving up here, and I lived here me whole life I’m so disappointed.
Coeur d'Alene is a beautiful city with a lot of outdoor activities. I personally felt like it was a much better place to live 10 to 20 years ago than it is now. While I love being a part of a growing community, I think the pace of growth here is way too fast. It is really putting a strain on infrastructure and resources. A lot of locals are getting priced out which is sad and it is creating so much anger and resentment. People on the roadways are rude with so much road rage. The small town feel is going away and it's becoming part of a large metro area as Post Falls, Hayden, Spokane valley, Rathdrum and Liberty lake all merge together. It's a headache to live here sometimes, especially during tourist season. It's hard to enjoy local beaches as they are often overcrowded and finding a campsite has become increasingly difficult. We live in a super popular place and it makes life difficult sometimes. I think there are better places to live and we may move away from here.
The housing costs have gotten unafforable and wages do not keep up
Public education is poor at best
Traffic is out if control
No infrastructure is planned fir all the incoming residents

I LOVE Coeur D Alene! The views are breath taking and the atmosphere is peaceful. I have loved every minute of being in this town. However, I would change the fact that it is growing rapidly. I really enjoy the prairie and that has been hidden by all the new houses they are building. Which is a bummer, but I still love to call it home.
My husband and I had our house built in Coeur d’Alene 3 years ago, but had been visiting for 6 years prior. We came from living our life in the Bay Area of Northern California. Prices have significantly gone up since we’ve been here. Great for us, bad for newcomers. The things we love most about the area is living near all the many lakes, mountains & pine trees. The downtown is so nice! There’s lots of restaurants, bars & shops. Good nightlife (live bands) at a few of the bars. During the Christmas season, downtown is all lit up, especially the Coeur d’Alene Resort & Marina. Tubb’s Hill is where lots of people go for a nice walk/hike with water mountain views. It’s right in the downtown area! We are 45 mins from the Spokane, WA Airport. Fairly close to Montana, too. People here are friendly. Mostly a red state, but as people move here it’s turning a bit more blue. We get all the beautiful seasons! Clean, fresh mountain pine air to breathe. Lots of sunny days.
The right wing conservatives and evangelicals can make a city with great natural resources so ugly. There are so many other places to visit/vacation that are stunningly beautiful and filled with welcoming people. I would warn folks to avoid CDA - it is just nasty.
I have lived in Coeur d' Alene my whole life. Recently it has started to become more and more over crowded due to tourists coming and seeing how beautiful it is and wanting to stay forever. There are nicer neighborhoods and parts of town, that were recently built, and other older parts that are being left behind and are becoming more janky.
CDA has been ruined by all the people coming in from other states. It’s growing too fast to accommodate all the people who come from Cali and all the people who visit in the summer don’t make it any better. You end up in a small city with a large city population. If you’re looking for a small town feel, this place is the worst, and it is becoming more liberal in time. If you’re coming here to get away from the liberals, look elsewhere, they are coming in with everything they have. It irritates me how hard they are pushing to change it and I’m not even conservative. They already ruined California so they are coming here to leave their mark on another beautiful place.
