I was born and raised here, first in Nanuet and then in New City. It's a very expensive area with high taxes, yet it's well over 30-45 minutes away from major nightlife, regional tourist attractions, and NYC. You need a car for everything here as there's limited transit. On the plus size, you can get to NYC or South Jersey via Metro North in Nanuet. The weather is chilly or freezing from mid November to early April. This is an area that spends lavishly on public services, yet roads here have lots of potholes.
This is a boring place to grow up and not worth your time unless you're retired and/or love peace and quiet. This is Anywhere, suburban Northeast USA; Levittown. It's safe here and schools are very good. But that's not unique to Clarkstown. Currently, I'm in Orlando, with no state tax, great weather year round, and near some of the best attractions and nightlife in the country. It's also over 30% more affordable here.
