Quiet, Friendly, Just enough space to grow and learn without the harshness of city life.Good Schools! Really could use some healthy/wholesome dining choices, but close enough to Peoria/East Peoria.
Small town communities help each other, and appreciate their small town. You can hardly step anywhere without seeing a familiar face. There’s always something to do, it’s usually something held at local community place like a theater, school, church, community center, even a local pub, etc. The people living here are friendly and love their town too. There is community support, and plenty here to care about. The old downtown area is cared for and has been given recent renovation attention by locals. Many of the shops show their town pride through outdoor displays. The old buildings are great for photographing and studying architecturally. There is so much detail and character. The town has an Illinois river view from several locations along the river, including several well maintained parks. Recently a skatepark for local kids was donated and built by a grass-roots non-profit organization within the town, NoWhere2Ride.
I love living in Chillicothe. Compared to other cities and towns I have lived in, this is the best one. I feel safe. The public schools are great. There are local bars and such but not too many to make it too noisy. It is very family friendly and not too expensive to live in. I think the only thing that I would like to see change is better job opportunities. Most of the businesses here are local businesses, grocery stores, gas stations, or fast food.
