From the beautiful skyline, to the amazing Chicago River, Chicago is a wonderful place to live. It's not so "stuffy" like New York, but it has all the same perks. As a rower, there is nothing like being on the water in the morning or at night. I'm constantly surrounded by beautiful architecture and a heavily diverse community.
Seeing as I'm a student in CPS, the schools are fantastic. The selective enrollment perks truly add to your college application, and one is heavily immersed in a diverse, caring community of teachers and peers.
Real estate is "meh". Honestly, I've moved several times since being born here. Every time I've moved, my parents have had money issues regarding the real estate. Also, depending on where you live, the safety can be not so great. It mostly is good, though.
As a working student, there are job opportunities for EVERYBODY! I've worked as a busser, food runner, and screenprinter. If you need a job that's decent-paying, there's always a place for you.

I have lived in Chicago my entire life and I feel Chicago has become increasingly dangerous and I no longer feel safe. It's heartbreaking to see how much rampant crime and lawlessness ruined such an amazing and beautiful city. I live approximately 12 miles from downtown and it can take anywhere from 45mins- 90 mins to get there. Not only is the traffic congested, but driving on the Dan Ryan is like driving on a race track with no traffic rules or speed limits and the strong odor of marijuana permeates the air. The y expressway shootings and carjackings only magnify these fears. I used to enjoy walking around downtown and going to many of the great restaurants but I find it hard to enjoy myself when I fear I am only increasing my chances of becoming the latest crime victim. Public transportation is also a scary experience because so many predators use public transportation to access downtown and often seek vulnerable people that look "out of place". Crime has now become a sport!
Chicago is a pretty average large urban city. Safety is great in certain areas while in other it sucks just watch your back. Nightlife is lit depending on where you are but even in smaller neighborhoods it's always a dive bar or lounge available. Always a fast-food place open late and public trans is always available but dangerous depending on where you are and what time you are traveling. CPS is terrible! You'd do better placing your child in a private, selective enrollment, or charter school.
