Nature abounds in Channahon, with three rivers, several parks, the I & M corridor, and historical Native American burial mounds, etc. Excellent police force that diligently enforces the law, to ensure practically no crime! Property taxes are unusually high, primarily due to the local schools' budgets and spending, and the cost of teachers' and staffs' generous salaries, benefits, and pension funds. Numerous chemical factories cause frequent offensive odors in the air, throughout the entire village. Cellular phones DO NOT work well in some neighborhoods, due to very restrictive village tower regulations. There are many cell phone DEAD ZONES throughout Channahon, and very limited choice of carriers. Only one major supermarket, and the usual fast food franchises, with a few stand alone retail, and service businesses and dining venues.
Weather is cold, icy and snow in Winter, hot and humid in Summer, with beautiful ( but too short) Springs and Autumns.

Love it! Great schools. Small town but close enough to the city. Great local food digs. Summer farmer's markets and fairs. I absolutely love raising my kids here! As far as things to do at night - well...the city isn't too far away.
Having grown up in Channahon, I really do love this little town. It's located off of I-55 and is an hour's drive to Chicago, making it really accessible. The town has continued to grow since my family moved here in '98. The roads are being widened and more stoplights are being added for safety and accessibility. One of the cons of this infrastructure change is the added truck traffic, as a large warehouse is being build in the town. The benefits of this town's growth are new businesses, which make it easier to stay in town for needs and recreation, such as restaurants, banks, a grocery store, and gyms. We also have our own state park. In Channahon, which means "Meeting of the Waters," the DuPage, Kankakee, and Des Plaines rivers intersect where the I & M Canal lies. There is also McKinley Woods and Moose Island which are great places to walk. There are also many of blue collar jobs, as there are many factories, plants, and warehouses in the area, including the Exxon Mobil Refinery.
