Champaign is an excellent area to live, with much growth potential, and opportunities for all. As with any city, there are areas for improvement, but overall the community takes pride in themselves and it's a pleasant area to live. One of the biggest benefits is the abundant resources for healthy living - several gyms, natural/organic and health-focused stores, and a large number of cultural stores (asian, indian, etc.) where you can get fresh ingredients to cook a wide variety of cuisines.
Champaign is an amazing place to be raised in. There is a wide variety of middle school and high school options, and a college option for everyone (U of I and Parkland). The town is perfect because there is always something to do, but it is never too crowded. Kids from towns all around come to Champaign on weekends. Another great thing is its location. Champaign is about two and a half hours from Chicago, Indianapolis, and Saint Louis. Also, being in the midwest means that we experience all four seasons to their full extent, which is a great thing. Champaign is ranked the number 2 college town in the nation for a reason. The football and basketball fanbase is unmatched anywhere else, and the whole city shows our pride for the University of Illinois.
I like that most things are a few minutes away via car, coming from the country, we had to drive an hour to the grocery store to be able to get everything. Most people in Champaign seem decent enough, though I hear lots of gunshots throughout the night, even though I research a decent neighborhood, which is concerning. Some of the roads are worse than country roads, but then most of them are really nice. It is a college town, which helps me to fit in even though I do my schooling online at a different University from U of I.
