Cedar City Reviews
Rating 4.07 out of 5 274 reviews
I’ve lived in a Cedar City my whole life. It has a lot to offer. Beautiful and diverse surroundings, world class theater, a decent university, a quaint downtown, a relatively safe community, and some delicious local restaurants. It has its share of problems too. If you’re not outdoorsy there’s not much to do. Not a lot of options for employment, especially if you’re hoping for a steady 9-5 office job with benefits and opportunities for career growth. It’s a fast growing community which means fast growing housing prices, and the pay in the area doesn’t reflect that. People in the area are often unwelcoming of newcomers from out of state. They have an irrational fear of the local culture being tainted, and tend to blame newcomers for the towns problem. Cedar city isn’t a small town any more, but locals don’t want to acknowledge that, or make the changes that are needed to accommodate the growth. Cedar city is a town of unfulfilled potential.
There is so much to do in the outdoors that is so close. I love going on a hike in the afternoon or on the weekends to relax and relieve my stress. There are also opportunities to rock climb, ski, and other outdoor activities. Nearby, there is a running/biking/walking trail that can be used all year round. There are pickle ball courts for those who enjoy raquetsports. Throughout town, there are multiple parks for kids and families to enjoy. There are also many events and activities to go to within the community. In the summer, there is the Shakespeare festival, which brings many people to town. There are plays that go throughout the day and in the evening. It is also the location of Southern Utah University, so it is a college town. The University has an art museum that is open to the public. Cedar City is also a great location to visit for a weekend or week long vacation. With so much to do, there is something for people of all ages to enjoy.
So many cute local businesses and because it's a college town, there's always plenty to do there! Some parts of town are a little beat up but it's a good city nonetheless.
