This is a great area to raise your kids- moderate environment, one of the safest places in the nation, and close to several beaches and trails. There is always something happening that you can involve yourself in (church events, bike races, etc.). I'm not sure I would move back here, mainly because I want to live in a cooler environment and a wider variety to interact with.
Housing is often great, though it can be a little pricey. There aren't a lot of abandoned or vacant properties. The nicer places are in Dos Vientos, but are much more expensive. Even the small apartments are nice.
It is a great atmosphere, beautiful weather, and friendly people. I would definitely live here again and is one of the safest towns in the country. I see a lot of successful people coming from Newbury Park.
