Great medium sized town with amazing public schools. Took off one star due to lack of activities in the area. Main attractions include the movie theater, bowling, and some great hiking spots - which gets old after a couple of years! Great location, an hour from the city and an easy train ride away. If you're debating which town in the area is fit for kids - Carmel is a great pick. The academics are OUTSTANDING and have many neighborhoods that are filled with other children.

Carmel has all the good qualities of an American suburb: Active community, self-improvement resources, and institutions across the entire county. From the Reed Library right by Lake Gleneida to the Carmel-Mahopac hiking trail, residents of Carmel make a serious effort to create a pleasant place to live.

Carmel rests in Putnam County, one of the most affluent counties in the nation. Putnam residents enjoy access to renowned business like McDonald's and Shoprite, as well as many small business which are just as good, like Sal's Pizza and Mega Mart.

If you seek a residence where you can live in peace and enjoy the fruits of our economy, you can't do better than Carmel!
Carmel Is a wonderful town with wonderful people. I have kids in the elementary school and the school is amazing. Politicly Carmel and the surrounding area is right leaning. There's not a lot of diversity here at all. I can count the black families on one hand. Being a person of color this deterred me, but I have not felt uncomfortable. There is no nightlife in this town, only a few bars/restaurants. The town is kept clean and the residents respect it. There are several sports and activities provided through Parks and recreation, which keeps parents and children happy and busy. Coming from New York City I feel completely safe in this town. Carmel has natural beauty with lakes and nature trails.
