Carbondale is a really small town, but with a lot of pizzazz, The University here is one of the most comfortable and beautiful ones I have ever been to. The campus is smack-dab in a forested area where white-tailed deer tend to hang out. With that there are a lot of great hiking experience to be had in Carbondale, IL. Just a short jog from Carbondale, you will find the giant city trails and even further you can hike at Shawnee!

Carbondale has potential. It is a university town and has made some recent improvements to the roads, sidewalks, and the SIUC campus. However, crime in the area is getting out of control and there have been many recent shootings and stabbings. Something real must be done!
My experience with Carbondale is mostly through my work. I work as a home visitor through the school district. I serve our families in our district who are most at risk and need some parental guidance and help with resources. I love my job very much! I see lots of families in poverty, but I am surrounded by a community that is willing to help. There are a lot of resources that are available for the families I serve! I work in some of the more "run down" neighborhoods and their has been a lot of crime happening in Carbondale lately. So sometimes, I feel that my job can be a little dangerous. But, I do it all for the children in hopes that I can provide a better life for them in the future!!
