Captain Cook Reviews
Captain Cook got its name from the English navigator, Captain James Cook. In 1779, he attempted to kidnap Kalaniopu'u, ruler of Hawaii at that time. His attempt led to the murder of Captain Cook, thus the name for the region on the west side of Hawaii Island. Captain Cook is a quieter location than Kailua-Kona. There is only one shopping center in the area. The best part of Captain Cook are the people. They are friendly, and very community and family oriented.
Captain Cook is a small town with only a few shopping and eating options. There are some really great farmers markets in the area and many Kona coffee shops to explore.
I live next to the police and fire station so I may be biased. In this small part of Kona (Captain Cook), there is very little crime and the police are able to get everywhere quickly since there is little traffic. The most trouble are from drugs or abuse cases but otherwise, it's a town of families and little old grandmas and grandpas.
