Not a great place, not a bad place, just a city. Schools are not wonderful, but not terrible. This is not a great place for a young family, as there are not that many job opportunities here. Plan on a commute to Pueblo or Colorado Springs for work. Best thing: events here draw people from all over the state, very cool. Worst daily thing you'll encounter: the traffic light systems are ridiculously bad. Traffic itself can get nasty because there's only two main roads, beware getting stuck inside the intersections. The road engineering is outdated due to population growth. All things said this is a good place to retire I guess, but only moderately ok for everything else.
Canon city is an average town that is slowly but surely growing up. Housing is more affordable than surrounding areas, that's what brought me here. There's not much for young people to do but that's also changing, slowly but surely. It's a good location though, the commute to places more eventful isn't bad. It's an hour or less from any where you would want to be and a good place to come home to and relax.
Canon City is a small mountain town with so much life. Being a transplant to this town was the best thing that ever happened to be, Canon hold so much of Colorado's history and is one of Colorado's top grossing tourist destination being home of The Royal Gorge Bridge (the worlds highest suspension bridge) and The Royal Gorge Railroad and Train which converts to the Polar Express during Christmas time for all families to enjoy.
