Very nice town with a lot of influence placed on family run/owned businesses. Nice area with a lot of forest areas and trails to hike up and down during the summer and spring seasons. Winter and fall are beautiful as well, the scenario of the surrounding landscape is gorgeous. While there maybe not much to do in the night, there is quite a bit of things to do in the day time. Sometimes its just a lot of fun to go out with the family and shop around the local town strips.

Califon is a great little town. We recently moved here (5 years ago) and We love it. The community is welcoming and warm. There is a general store (Rambo’s) with a butcher and fresh food. Bex kitchen is also an award winning restaurant and catering in Califon.
The biggest problem with the town is the fact that they seem to be trying to keep the K-8 school open despite losing so many kids. I think there are less than 60 students there now for the whole school and the taxes just keep going up because the cost per pupil is so high (over $28,000 per pupil). I wish they would combine the Califon students with one of the neighboring schools (less than a mile or two away). The whole thing seems really crazy from a spending standpoint. Califon does have high taxes but I’m hoping they close the school and get back to something more reasonable.
The town itself is great and has the potential to really be awesome if they would fix the disproportionate spending on the school.
I currently live in Califon. It's very safe here, and it's very beautiful, but the houses are expensive. You get a house with wide open space in the front yard and backyard. There are also lots of farms around here. Unfortunately, it's very isolated and there's barely anything to do. In fact, the entire county is isolated, not just Califon. The closest mall is a half hour away, the closest supermarket is about 20 minutes away, the closest Starbucks is 15 minutes away and you in general have to drive 20-30 minutes to get to most places. If you're a teenager and/or love to go out and have fun, I wouldn't recommend moving to Califon or even Hunterdon County. If you want to move to a very quiet town but still want to have everything close enough by, I highly recommend Colts Neck in Monmouth County. I'm not sure about the school system because i've never gone to the schools around here, but if you're a lively person, I don't recommend Califon or even Hunterdon County at all.
