Calexico is a small town located in South California just across the Mexican border, enriched by the Mexican and American culture, what I love about this town is that you get to experience two cutures that develop you as a human being and give you many perspectives about living our type of lifestyle compared to many other types of living in America. Most of us that grew up in this town knowing how to speak Spanish thanks to our Hispanic parents. What I do not really like about this town is just really how small is it, I personally enkjoy big cities and the one on the other side of the border, Mexicali, is a pretty regular metropolis that we can compare out small town to; however, hence the size of our city, we are very close to each other and most of us recognize many of the citizens around. I feel like Calexico needs an improvement when it comes to a better quality of life and more job opportunities.
Coming from a small border town, bordering the capital city of Baja California, Mexico, everyone from the stray dogs to my family are Mexicans. There is absolutely no cultural diversity here. I was raised around mainly Hispanic culture, celebrating Mexican traditions like Día de Muertos and Las Posadas. Being the second generation to go to school in America, most of my family lives in Mexico. I usually spend most holidays in Mexico for this reason. I’ve spent with my grandparents for as long as I can remember.
My experience in the small border town named Calexico is by far one of my favorites. The community is friendly and united which makes this town a wonderful place to visit and possibly the best to live in. This town is unique since most of its population is Mexican. The American and Mexican race have very different cultures but the community now comes together to celebrate their traditions and their beliefs notwithstanding the wall that separates them. A normal a day in this town begins at sunrise with most of the adult residents getting ready to work in the fields. Their hard work and dedication only show the young and it showed me, that to have a better life you will always have to work hard. Although many have never heard about Calexico, I can say that it is definitely a positive and welcoming place in which you will never want to leave.
