Calera is a little town that is growing fast! It is located north of Montgomery and South of Birmingham. It has four public schools, Calera elementary, intermediate, middle and high. The high school is fairly new; however, it is too small to accommodate the growing student population. It lacks some of the sports facilities and program that other neighbor school offers.
Pros: very low crime rate in the area; very family friendly, but not a lot to do in the town; very nice middle school, highschool, and sports complex. You you love kids sports, you will love Calera. Lots of churches. The real estate is affordable right now.
Cons: the population of Calera has grown significantly over the past several years and Calera has not adapted. The intermediate school is overcrowded. The main roads are very congested during normal commute hours and need to be expanded. The portion of old town Calera is rundown, and could use a major beautification project. The trains running through town tend to block the main roads during heavy commute hours, which can be very frustrating! The city could really use an overhaul. I'm hoping this is in the works, because Calera has wonderful potential.

I live in south Calera, and I love it. There’s not much to do other than the railroad museum but it’s only about a 15 minute drive to Alabaster, and there’s a lot of stuff up there to do there. It’s quiet, safe, and very welcoming to new folks!
