I was born in Marion, attended public schools and will graduate from MHS in 2018. I feel Williamson County is much safer than surrounding counties. There really isn't a lot for teens to do in this area. There is a public swimming pool and a few parks that families can enjoy together. The Marion Cultural and Civic Center brings in concerts, musicals, and plays that are nice to go to. We also have a professional Frontier League ball team, the Southern Illinois Miners, that make their home at Rent One Park. During December they turn the park into a Winter Wonderland providing ice skating, a polar maze, mini golf, and a slide!

Williamson county is very small, has many poor areas, has some drug use, and local shops continue to close. I wish to see a more active and vibrant community that supports the local businesses, and grows, rather than shrinks.
As I have said before, I am rating the food and drink places near me, not in my town, because my town does not offer these things. However, only ten to fifteen minutes away is a town with a wonderful selection and a variety of foods. We have a BBQ place in Marion, Illinois that was voted best ribs in the word by Bon Appetite magazine. (No joke!) Nearly every restaurant (even chain restaurants) serve local draft beers and wines. The selection and quality is fantastic!
