Although Wilkes county is a rather large county its population is lower. This allows room for beautiful woods, backyard creeks, and simple small town living. Although many teens consider it a goal to leave Wilkes, it's on the rise industrially and commercially. Wilkes however, remains a great place to raise a family. Away from
the hustle of city living children can safely explore their backyard woods with their fellow neighborhood friends. Wilkes is also full of historical building and cute downtown small business stores perfect for spending a Saturday afternoon.
Good environment to grow up. As a kid, we moved a lot, always felt at "home" in Wilkes. Everyone is very nice and "southern hospitality" plays a huge role in the community. Smaller area, so anytime you go to the store you run into 10 people that you know. Quite a pleasnet little area.
