Washington Parish Reviews
In the inner city of Bogalusa the housing is bad. There are old houses that have been unkept for years. No one has cleaned up the vacant houses. It is an eyesore. There are a lot of young people in bogalusa. None of them want to rent a house here. Bills are normal. The cost of living is normal here. The best place to live in this area is eastern Bogalusa, next to the Mississippi border and the farm land west and south of the city.
My area is a poor community. Bogalusa is about 60 miles north of new orleans. There is no opportunity for young people to find jobs close to home. Housing quality is also poor. A termite infested shack of a house will rent for $600 a month. There are no newer apartments or housing. The positives of our area are the quiet country atmosphere. The land just outside of city limits is beautiful. There are forest and open cow pastures.
Mom and pop stores complete about a handful of the businesses in my area and do fairly well considering the locals who are very loyal to them. Bigger businesses also do well, as they usually have more of the necessary items people need on a day to day bases; such as Wal-Mart, Dollar General, the Dollar Tree, and fast food restaurants.
