Vernon Parish Reviews

We lived on the base of Fort Polk. The town surrounding it: Leesville was pretty much nothing but bars and strip clubs. Its at least a 45 minute drive to the nearest mall or really to go or do anything. I did love the outdoor sports of Louisiana; such as hunting and fishing and the lifestyle was very slow paced which at times was very nice. The "people" there definitely look at you as an outsider when you first arrive, but then become familiar with you and the Southern hospitality comes out. Overall; we made the best of our 2 years there but its not in our future to return.
There seemed to be a lot misdemeanors in the city of Leesville. The police department had a facebook page; that updated every week or so of the latest mug shot and what the crime was. Everything was mainly concerning drug abuse. I worked at a hotel there and had one incident where i had to call the police; and they responded very fast. They were always parked in the median of the highway; waiting to bust people for drinking and driving at all the clubs and bars. The police officers were also very involved in their community which i thought was awesome. All in all; i think the police are doing the best they can on making that area safe.
There was no safety issues in this community. I cannot think of a time where crime took place in this particular town. It is more than safe than many areas around the world. If you are a person who would like for the police to be visible at all times, this town is not the best town for you. Though, I believe the reason for this is that the crime in this area is almost little to none.
