Suffolk Country overall is a very safe place and it is family friendly. Public schools are and education is great if you have kids. There are many parks and activities. It is less condensed than the city and it has a comfortable space. The housing is great but it is very expensive, however.
Suffolk County in comparison to the surrounding areas is more laid-back, significantly cheaper, and more suburban. However, the schools, crime rates, and affordability need to improve. The median cost of homes in most towns that don't have a concerningly high crime rate tends to be in the 400k-500k range.
Grew up in Suffolk County and still return regularly to visit family. Reviews that say the residents here are diverse baffle me. The only explanation is that it's a white person who thinks hiring a hispanic woman to clean their house is diversity. The very small populations that aren't white are very much isolated to certain areas/towns. There are nice beaches and nice wineries, if those interest you. I find the landscape here very boring. All of LI is flat - if you enjoy hiking don't move here. If you're looking for any adventure you have to drive to Nassau County or drive a good couple of hours into the city. Property taxes are outrageous. Traffic/congestion keeps getting worse. Overall the longer I've been away from LI, the harder it is to find any redeeming qualities about it.
I grew up on Long Island in New York and couldn't imagine living anywhere else. Everything and anything a person needs/wants is right here on the island! I believe that Long Island is one of the most diverse places on earth. Each neighboring town has many different types of individuals with different religions, ethnicity, etc, and each contain their own way of life. I am 25 years old and wish to grow old right here on Long Island. (not to mention Long ISland is a short driving distance to New York City, arguably the greatest city in the world!)
Suffolk County has brought me so much comfort and so many amazing friends. I wouldn't want to go any where else.
there needs to be a lot of change in suffolk county, especially in the race category. there are a lot of nice places to go , and things to do for kids. but for adults you deal with a lot of racism from your neighbors also the police.
I like Suffolk County. It's a safe environment to raise kids, and the residents are diverse. Suffolk County is also a short distance from New York City. There are a variety of houses to choose form such as single family homes, apartments, town homes, and multi-family homes. The traffic is not a lot except for trying to get into the city. The worst thing about Suffolk County would be the high taxes.
okay place to live. not really applicable, I am just filling this out for a scholarship. thank you!!!
used to be better before the population exploded. Traffic and too many strip malls. overpriced and taxed.
I would like a new president, more healthcare that we can afford and more low income housing. More help for the homeless and more clothing stores in the area.
Suffolk County is a great place to raise a family. It has many career opportunitys . Neighbor hood's are family friendly and school systems are among the best. Anywhere in Suffolk It is less than a 30 minute drive to the ocean. Spend a day out on the east end and visit the vineyards. See Montauk and visit the lighthouse. It is a short drive to Manhattan , where you can see a Broadway show. Or hop on the ferry in Port Jefferson and go to Conneticut to visit the casinos. There is so much to do and see in Suffolk County.
The place was very clean the people were extremely pleasant and efficient there’s so much to do the nightlife is great The weather is really good there a four seasons you have water activities and land activities never a doll moment
I like living here, access to many places, always finding something new. Lots of new and cool places to explore, lots of places to walk around outdoors. Many towns that have nice areas to walk around and have good places to eat. Lots of nice brunch spots and cafes.
Great public schools, many strip malls and restaurants open. Great universities as well. Stores always looking to hire.
Have more activity for the young kids and more help for after school .the taxes are very high. More help for single mothers. Every student should be able to get transportation because something is very dangerous to walk to school.
I have lived in Suffolk County, NY for 15 years now and it’s terrible! There’s not that much to do, there’s tons of traffic, The cost-of-living is sky high, certain areas the crime is sky high and the Winters are brutal with at least one night the temperatures being around -5°F or colder! I strongly suggest moving somewhere else!
I am an immigrant from Turkey and have lived in Suffolk County since 2005. I had a hard time getting along and making friends in my demographic and area when i first moved here but things quickly got better after a year or so after adjusting. I love Suffolk County because of its access to beaches and environment during the summer. Things I'd like to see change is the prices for rent which are way too high and the focus from the farm-to-table tourism industry which are affecting the rents.
