Scioto County Reviews

You most likely hear the words drugs, welfare, overdose or heroine when you hear about Scioto County. While these are very big issues here, it still has much to offer. Plenty of schools with excellent education with doctors and lawyers in the making. There is a have a small college, SSU, that is great for young adults to attend who live in the area and choose to stay close to home after high school. The scenery is beautiful. Plenty of state parks, like Wayne National or Shawnee State Park that offer hunting and fishing if you enjoy the outdoors. Scioto County is located on the Ohio River that gives local businesses a source of transportation for steel or coal. While we have a Walmart, we still offer many small local businesses that are thriving. Scioto County needs a little work with the drug issues and poverty, but it has so much potential to be a great county to live in. All it needs is a little time and effort from caring and hard working people to clean it up.
SCIOTO COUNTY IS A MOSTLY RURAL COUNTY WILL 13 SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND ONE LOCAL COLLEGE (SHAWNEE STATE UNIVERSITY) IN WHICH I HAVE LIVED ALL OF MY LIFE. MY EXPERIENCE WITH SCIOTO COUNTY HAS LOST ITS LUSTER OVER THE PAST 50 YEARS AND HAS TURNED INTO ONE OF THOSE TOWNS THAT GETS BYPASSED IN ORDER TO GET TO THE NEXT BIGGER CITY. OLD RIVER TOWN CLOSE TO SOUTH SHORE KY, WITH LIMITED THINGS TO DO. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE TOWN BRING IN MORE BUSINESSES, BETTER SHOPPING, MORE ENTERTAINMENT OPPORTUNITIES, AND SOME DIFFERENT RESTAURANTS TO APPEAL TO THE CURRENT RESIDENTS , BUT FOR TRAVELERS.
I have lived here my whole life. Poverty, crime, drugs, poor weather, poor economy, no recreation, but has some decent schools and Shawnee State is a good, cheap college but get your degree and move elsewhere. This town is not a place to live or raise children.
