Born, raised, graduated and still reside in Kaufman County, 28 years to be exact. Ive seen this county go from barely being on the map to making the news and currently standing as one of the top growing counties in North Texas. The county as a whole is rather flabberghasting because if you end up on ones "bad" side there is nothing but black/white perspectives, absolutely no common ground whatsoever. The court system is full of corruption no matter which precinct or judge. Once you deal with any of the cities or county police department- they wont forget you- which leads to harrassment and profiling. The county is attempting to stay in line with its neighboring counties (ex. Dallas, Rockwall) however Kaufman stood out so long as to not being one of those counties. Crime rate has risen drastically especially since Dallas Section 8 housing was approved in certain areas. Kaufman county is all about WHO you know and how crooked/sly you can be otherwise you have no say so in this county.
Moved from Louisiana to Texas. My biggest complaint is that Property taxes are way too high in this county! They tax you on everything. Even shelters for your livestock, or anything considered an improvement(fencing). Some areas look like a third world country. Very trashy. People are friendly there and willing to lend a helping hand. Weather is comparable to Louisiana without as much humidity. No mosquitos where I live. Nice! Had to get used to the wind. Kaufman is a growing County.
Kaufman used to be a beautiful small town with its residents walking the streets to enjoy the evening. Now it has grown to be a more populated town, the more people the better. More homes, restaurants, and advances in our school come our way as the population increases.
