James City County Reviews
Rating 3.65 out of 5 105 reviews
Transportation infrastructure means that I lose about 10 miles per gallon driving locally vs in a rural area, which comes with cost. Rent is difficult to sustain as a low income student in a local college, but my peers with higher family contributions to their education have little to no issue finding rent within their price range. Generally, I wish that there was a better, more balanced ecology between student renters, blue-collar renters, white-collar renters, homeowners, and landlords.
James City County is a very up-and-coming area of the 757 peninsula. It has 9 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, and 3 high schools, all of great educational value. It can be quiet in the evening with small pockets of nightlife, but it certainly offers something for everyone. The Busch Gardens and Water Country theme parks offer adventure for all in the area, while the settlements at Yorktown and Jamestown, as well as Colonial Williamsburg, offer a historic take on the foundation of the area. These bring the county alive during the summer and early fall as many tourists are drawn into town. Additionally, the county has a wide array of restaurants and cultures to be immersed in. There is a fair amount of diversity that creates a balance and inclusivity. It has many parks and recreational areas to enjoy nature and take in the fresh air. This offers many opportunities to raise families and engage in a natural manner with all James City County has to offer.
James City County reaps the benefits of being near Colonial Williamsburg, without the parking troubles. It is a nice community with multiple shopping centers. Most of these shopping centers include generic stores. Though the town is more appealing for older people, there is still fun for everyone. The town really shuts down at dark, and is almost completely lifeless at 8 or 9. Great job opportunities for teens though. Most people are nice, or at least pretend to be, lol.
