I grew up in Ionia and moved out of the city as soon as I could, college students would have a hard time here. As I graduated from high school I quickly realized there were no college opportunities anywhere near Ionia. If I wanted to go to school and live with my parents I would have to pay out of resident fees for every near by university and community college! Which meant I would have to pay twice as much for tuition as I would for someone paying an in resident cost. I had to move out to save money. Also, there are very few job opportunities in Ionia for college students besides fast food. Nothing that would teach you real life applications or help you establish any sort of helpful budget. Surviving on minimum wage, even if you're living with your parents rent free, is tough. You still have to afford books, car insurance, gasoline to make it to these schools that are 30+ miles away, and any other odd and end supplies for school.
Ionia county is a rural community with all of the normal limitations of small government, limited funds, and lowered income tiers. That being said, the local police are often biased, and fail to complete the job of upholding the law based on unavoidable personal relationships with so many people in the county. In a small community everyone knows everyone.
Very family friendly environment and many people are welcoming. Lots of different opportunities for work.
