I have lived in this area my entire life. I live in the Washburn area of Grainger County area. We live in a farming area. It is nice and quiet and you have plenty of space. We have a Dollar Store and a gas station. I love my little town. Everyone knows most everybody and there is always a helping hand. This town is very family oriented. I wouldn't move away from this town for nothing. It is my home.

I love living in a small town, but it could use some fixing up. Also, officers could do a better job.
If Grainger County was to be described in one word, it would be empty. Grainger is behind the curve when it comes to convenience and opportunities for its citizens compared to neighboring counties. The county as a whole is very barren and rural, and it seems as if the county wants it to stay that way.

For example:

• lack of diversity - 98.8% white, 86% Christian, 87% conservative.

• lack of opportunity for young people - no bars, restaurants, stores, etc (only “fun” thing for young people is church).

• terrible infrastructure - dilapidated and narrow bridges, pot-hole ridden roads, two lane highways with low speed limits, no public sewer system for 85% of county residents.

• Lack of job opportunities - unless you want to work in agriculture, manufacturing, or local government, you will have a hard time finding work.
