There are a lot of things to see in Braxton County, WV. Sutton, a town in Braxton, is what they call "The Heart of West Virginia". There is a legend in Braxton County about an Alien seen in Flatwoods on September 12, 1952. It is called by many names like: Braxton County Monster, The Phantom of Flatwoods, The Green Monster, and The Flatwoods Monster. There is a museum in Sutton named "The Flatwoods Monster Museum". Braxton County may be small, but there are big hearts living among the towns.
Very spread out. 20-30 minute drives from one small town to the next. Public schools need funding. Few job opportunities other than minimum wage jobs.
I live in a rural area where everyone knows and checks on their neighbors. It is very scenic by the riverside in our back yard and very majestic on top of our tallest hill. This is the only place I have every lived. So, this is home. I would choose to live here again and I would just call this my hometown. The only place thats home. I believe if some jobs would open up in our area, it would grow. However, many coal mines around us have shut down, so work is slim right now. I am hoping that after the next election that jobs will open back up.
