Alamance County is one of the more rural portions of North Carolina and with that comes some positives and also some drawbacks. The general atmosphere is pleasant and generally rather family friendly, however their is also some rather unpleasant aspects of this area. With it's rural nature and also the overbearing fact that it is located in the south a lot of undercut racism exists within the community, which can cause a number of problems. It's also a rather small area in terms of population so a lot of the positives and negatives of small town living are present here.
I've lived in Alamance County my whole life and it has not been the greatest county. There is a lot of racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, and many other hateful groups against minorities. Over the next few years, I hope there is change and I will be the start of it. There needs to be more love rather than hatred and deaths. Growing up, you never notice all the bad a place can have and how bad some of the people are. As you get older, you notice it a lot more and people like me, strive to make that change and want to fight for justice for kids, teens, and minorities who cant stand up for themselves.
While Alamance is small and is not widely known I think it is a great county. It has a few different cities that are all unique. There is a lot of history in this area, good and bad. It is interesting to learn about how a place so insignificant, can hold so much. Towns like Mebane and Burlington are bigger and are where many people go for great food and affordable places to live that are close to work in Chapel Hill, Raleigh and other towns that have lots of careers but higher cost of living than here. It is a great place to find small shops as well as bigger stores. Variety of things to do for a small place on a map.
