Working in Burton
Burton is a okay place to live. But i am 2 blocks from Flint Michigan (where i was born and raised)and hear gun shots, sirens, fights, etc... The crime is VERY high. Our kids are grown now and families of their own so we are thinking of moving even if we take a loss on our home. We moved from Flint when our kids were just 3 and 1 yrs old so they would be in a better school and away from gangs. We try to donate to our shelters when we can, we donate to Toys for Tots faithfully every Christmas, and help our elderly neighbors. There are some good folks here, but if you are coming from a quiet town where you can keep your doors unlocked.... Be very aware of your surroundings in Burton. I carry pepper spray and watch everyone. Sex trafficking, Purse snatching, and drug overdoses are huge here also. Most are dying from Heroin cut with fentanyl. It isn't all bad but i can't give a honest review without the harsh reality.
Burton can be a very homey scene, however the closer you get to Flint, the more unsafe you feel. At times I get scared walking out of my house at night alone. The crime rate has gone up and the neighborly feeling has decreased making Burton not a terrible place to live but not necessarily a great one either. I hope that my hometown can recover and feel safe again.
Very rough, but there are some very nice individuals in the area. It is an area stricken with poverty and many do not care about their community or themselves. It isn't all doom and gloom, as there are great opportunities for education and enrichment. I assume this is typical of most areas, so I give Burton an average score.
