I lived there for 15 years. We loved being close to the ocean, close to everything. However, the city went downhill fast. The crime rate is one of the highest in the entire US. With drugs, gangs, shootings, rapes…very high crime. I worked at GCPD, taking the statistics and turning them in to the state justice department. On a personal note…the 1st year I lived there, I was raped by a stranger. Ten years later, it happened again. I moved after that. I lived in a nice subdivision, however there was a lot of property crime. Even upscale neighborhoods had it.
There FBI ranks Brunswick as #7 highest crime rate in the US!
Rental rates are sky high bc FLETC pays top dollar, so landlords charge everyone top dollar. I lived in a 2 bd/2bth duplex and paid $850. The next renters were charged $1200.
People don’t want to work; restaurants have been caught peeing in food; schools are awful; you just can’t enjoy a town like that.

Brunswick is a very nice city, it’a small and a car is needed to get anywhere depending on your station but it’s quiet and beautiful. Recently it has been renovated and expanding in social atmosphere, I am excited to see the wonderful things there’s new places have to offer!
Brunswick drips with southern hospitality. Abundant housing in nearby Glynn County and literally 15 minutes from the Atlantic Ocean. The city proper is a mix of historic homes and housing projects. Crime is generally limited to the public housing areas. Downtown is currently experiencing a renaissance of shops, eateries and loft apartments. The waterfront sports the best marina on the eastern coast. St Simon's Island, located less than 15 minutes away, is the hottest retirement destination in Georgia.
