I feel so blessed to have grown up in Montrose, surrounded by generations of family and familiar faces. I love the rural atmosphere and the ability to drive 30 minutes to medium sized cities. From the high school to the grocery store to the gas station and everywhere in between, people are friendly and always striking up conversation. The influx of gas workers has also brought a new energy and influenced business owners to invest in local real estate, which is great! I miss Montrose when I am away at school.
Many of the local businesses are very small and family owned. There is a great semi-formal/wedding dress boutique in town, next to a floral shop, and country home decorations store. These, along with a chocolate store are big hits in town, with very friendly service. There is a clothing store called Label Shopper, however, this is the only place one can get clothing, and it's primarily female, not many options for males. There are not many big companies in town, and the biggest chains are probably McDonalds, CVS and Subway.
I haven't heard of to much crime going on in this area recently. The main form of crime around here that I see is mailbox hitting. People drive around and hit mailboxes with their vehicles, a bat or any other objects. This causes damage to mailboxes and sometimes the owners even have to replace them.
