Bridgeport is a very safe, clean, friendly town. It prides itself on the status of it's school system and it's tight community. The schools in this town are some of the best, and offer lots of resources to higher education. It has a strong police force and an extremely low crime rate. There a variety of locally owned restaurants, shops, and businesses. Bridgeport is a wonderful place to live!
We're looking to buy a house for retirement, and have been driving through and visiting several states while viewing houses. Bridgeport, WV has a great small town feel and the houses are well kept. People have been nice.
Amenities seem to be on par with the population - large town/small city. The population isn't that much larger than the town I live in in NJ (5k)and between the town and the stores down I-79 there are MANY more options than I have here. I can get to more in NJ, but I have to travel at least 20-30 minutes to get to them. I've been reading reviews as well and want to comment on the person who said the Bridgeport schools may be "good for the area, but not compared to outside of WV" - US New & World report listed the ranking of Bridgeport's high schools at 774 which is within the top 4.3% of schools in the nation. I wouldn't stick up my nose at being "only" better than 95% of the high schools in the US. Bridgeport is going into our "High Probability" file.

I moved to Bridgeport approximately ten years ago. We picked to live in Bridgeport because the academics for our children are top notch and so are the sports programs. Bridgeport may be a pricey location when purchasing a home, but the location is wonderful. It is close to the interstate, hospital, churches, mall, etc. On top of all of that, Bridgeport is a great place to raise a family. It is a very family oriented place!
