I moved to Bound Brook in 2020. I enjoy it. It's a typical NJ town for middle class. Things are close, Dunkin Donuts, Quick Chek, Shop Rite, Home Depot, Target, you name it - 3 minute drive. The Bridgewater Mall is about 5-10 minute drive. Public transport in the area is ample, many buses, and train station is 1-2 miles depending where you live in Bound Brook. People who work in local stores are friendly, and so are my neighbors. It is very much a community. The majority of folks take care of their properties and are proud of their homes. I really enjoy living here.
Lived here since 1983. The town has changed a lot since then. It used to be a nice quiet desirable town with a mix of working & middle class people until around 1995 when the demographic began to change. Since then, the downtown area has become rundown. The town is now also known for having a large hispanic population. Most of the stores in the downtown area are geared towards the hispanic population. There's not much to do in town. If you like South American food, I guess you'd like our downtown. The town has potential to be another Somerville, but it just remains a rundown shell of it's former self. New apartment buildings are being built since we has a train station, but there's not even enough parking for new tenants. It's also a very transient town in general. People tend to move in and move out frequently. School system is poor. It's a decent place for a young professional to live temporarily. Not a place for living long term and raising a family. There's much better towns.
Close train, bus and highway. Stores, malls and restaurants are nearby. Diverse, friendly, mad courteous people hold doors for you going in and out of stores and you can strike up a friendly conversation with your neighbors almost anywhere. Great bars as well!
