Bluefield is a city that has been forgotten in time. The citizens reminisce on a time of prosperity during the age of coal. Many citizens at his time enjoyed the benefits of high paying railroad and mining jobs, creating comfortable lives. But the citizens of Bluefield chose work over education and with the loss of mining and railroad jobs, as the use of coal fired power plants continue to be discouraged in hopes of fighting climate change, the citizens have not been given many opportunities to provide for their families. Although most residents that you meet are friendly and caring people, illicit drug use has stolen the soul of the town. The opiate crisis has taken hold of the town and the majority of its citizens are addicted or recovering opiate addicts. The increase in illicit drug use coupled with the lack of jobs and education has left Bluefield in a downward spiral.

Its a great place to live. There is stores and a small mall. I would like to see the town grow because there isn't really much to do here! The carnival comes once a year and thats the most exciting thing that happens. We do have several parks and in the summer we have a kids train to ride at Bluefield Park. We recently got 2 new fitness centers, which is nice except neither have a daycare so that takes away from some people being able to go, like me.
Certain parts of Bluefield, WV has bad areas that you definitely don't want to live in. Taxes are ridiculous. The area has went down over the years. Lots of people have moved over ridiculously high taxes, not many jobs in the area, & nothing to do. This city will nickel & dime you... On the upside, Bluefield has some of the most beautifully architecturally designed homes you'll ever find around the surrounding areas. I have heard the water isn't the greatest, that it has been a culprit in staining ppls teeth. No joke, caution on the side of err.
