Black Hawk is a quiet rural area of around 7000 people. It's a fantastic place to raise a family. It is still close enough to Rapid City to receive all the benefits of the larger community.
Weather here in the Black Hills can be extreme - changing by 30 degrees from one part of town to another. Winter can be brutal, like winter of 2013 - very cold, excessive winds and snow. In 12 years I've seen drought, end of drought, return of harsh winter, blizzard conditions, lots of green lushness, tornados and high winds. But for the most part it has been a great ride. Nice golden falls in Spearfish canyon, chokecherry trees in bloom, lots of beauty in spring, and hot, hot summers. Not too shabby but not like Vermont where I grew up - when seasons were so pronounced.
There are many attractions - The Black Hills themselves, sacred sites, Crazy Horse Monument, Mt. Rushmore Monument, the American Indian Lakota/Dakota/Nakota Reservations (9) have much to learn from, Spearfish Canyon, Tanka Bar factory, The Great Plains Art Market on Main Street Square, Prairie Edge, etc.
