Big Stone Gap Reviews
The town of Big Stone Gap Virginia is a very small town, population level under 9,000. The residents mostly consist of Homophobic, Hypocritical Christians with an entitlement issue and slight racism. But all in all, the crime rate is low, the people are nice, the cost of living is low, the jobs are very difficult to find and not good work when you do find one. The coal industry was a huge part of this area, and after EPA restrictions much of the populous is now unemployed. There was recently a movie made about our area in which the setting was nearly 40 years ago, but much of the town was able to be displayed as it it now, because, well, not much has changed. If you can ignore the racism, and withstand constantly choking on the bible that will inevitably be shoved directly down your throat, then this is a good place to live. Beautiful scenery, the mountains are gorgeous, surrounds us on all sides, makes you feel safe.
I've lived in Big Stone Gap for 21 years, and my experience is not bad but it is boring. Big Stone is a tiny town with friendly people good food, and you are hugged by beautiful mountains. Big Stone also has my college I attend which is called Mountain empire community college. Even though there is not many activities to do here, I still love my town. There is some downsides to my town, it is known as a coal town and many coal mines are going out of business making a lot of stores go out of business. It is difficult to find a job here, and without and Job it's difficult to afford to find and place to live. Still, I love my town and the people in it.
Well I've lived here all my life and I could never think less of it. It is a very welcoming community where everyone knows each other. News spreads quickly and everyone is a family. We have many self owned business' that have become the center of our town. It is a lovely place I wouldn't change anything about.
