I have grown up in Bethel park and all I can say as a Black girl is that it is alright. There isn’t much fun in Bethel, you would have to travel to the south side of Pittsburgh, Bridgeville, or the city to find something fun to do. As far as the schools, Independence Middle School and the high school specifically, there could be a lot more done to make students of color feel more welcome and accepted. The teachers try but something has to be done by the school board to really push bethel into being more accepting of diversity. Bethel Park is relatively safe in terms of violent crimes but there are definitely drugs going around, hence the high school’s nickname “Heroine High.” Though its mostly pills nat going around nowadays.
Friendly community, good schools. Easy access to "T". Could use more restaurants, less mattress stores! Commute to downtown is not the easiest due to traffic congestion. Has newly started book exchange which is a nice way to recycle and encourage people to read more. Overall, a nice place to raise a family
It is a relatively nice area. Bethel is a pretty quiet place, not too much happening. Bethel is not a great place to walk as there are not many sidewalks and the drivers on the road are quite aggressive. If you enjoy walking I would recommend taking the 5-minute drive over to South Park as the area is made with pedestrians in mind.
