Bethel is a rural village in the Alaskan native community and I've been a resident for about 2 years now. Because of its remote nature, we lack in a healthy economy, living conditions and job opportunities; however, its created a bond amongst residence that I've yet to experience elsewhere.
Bethel has nice weather and a good amount of shopping and job opportunities. Many days are sunny and warm. The stores offer a decent variety of items such as groceries, school supplies, and clothing. There are a fair amount of job opportunities. However, the town can be dangerous and the roads need more work.
Bethel citizens on Facebook have remarked about how the town is not as safe as it used to be, especially at night. The roads are full of potholes and often make driving a hassle.

Bethel Alaska is an amazing community of people, though the fact that it is in rural Alaska makes many aspects of life that much more difficult. Whether it's the cost of living, the outrageous prices of gasoline, or even the extreme cold winter months, it all makes life out here a tough one. Though through the extremes and the tough aspects of life out here, it grows people to be that much more resilient. The people who can endure through it here often come out as stronger people, more acceptable of all walks of life, and even just more courteous to the next person they meet. Bethel is a tough town to live in, but the people here make it worth the while.
