It is a basic, southern small town. Everyone knows each other and the atmosphere is calm and peaceful. There is not much to do other than drive along in the back roads and listen to music. The popular hangout places that most teens go to are Walmart parking or Rend Lake Dam. For the most part is a quiet town!

Benton is a small but yet unique town hidden away in southern illinois. The camping experience is fantastic. There are multiple options to go fishing, hunting, and camping. Like around Rend Lake or at the Benton KOA. The KOA is a great family campground with a pool and catch and release pond. There are a few mom and pop type of restaurants in town that are always a great place to stop and have a bite to eat. There is a good size Wal Mart in town which can be convenient. I wish there was a few more places in Benton that would help bring in tourism. The reason being is that there is nothing to do in town but walk around Walmart on a Friday night. Most people in up spending their money in another town. Overall I have had a great experience in benton the people are friendly, the food is good, and the camping is fantastic. Benton is a family fun filled town.
You can go fishing, hunting, and four wheeling. There's a lake close by. It's laid back. There's Mexican restaurants. There are so many antique stores around the square.
