Everyone knows almost everyone else. It's a "Hi, Joe!" kind of town. It's a great place to raise children. Mountains are very close to town with good hiking trails.
Some of the best skiing in the East is a sort drive. Prospect Mtn. in Woodford on the edge of town was started by Willy Morse, local contractor to give his workers employment during the winters. Today, it's a cross-country area with excellent trails etc. The area abounds with lakes for swimming and boating. It's under an hour to Albany, NY the capitol. It is the home of Bennington College a leading Liberal Arts school. There is excellent golfing at Mt. Anthony Golf course. A great area to raise children. I know 'cause I was born and raised there and went on to earn a Ph.D. in Chemistry inspired by our Chemistry teacher, Walter Wood, may he Rest In Peace!

Bennington is both beautiful and historic. The Old Bennington is one of the most impressive residential areas in the entire NorthEast. Unfortunately, the national illegal drug trade has taken its toll here as it has elsewhere - Maine & New Hampshire included. Add to that the "old guard" corrupt Select Board who have made exceptionally unwise decisions in order to play the "politically correct" game caused & is still causing numerous small businesses to close up shop & tourism decrease. The town may still be viable if town fathers knock off allowing yet additional low/affordable housing within a community that has more of its fair share. The local hospital - Southwestern VT Med Center - is excellent and offers compassionate, expert care. Overall, the good surpasses the not-so-good. The Country Club is fantastic. May God bless Bennington.
Nice small town. Close knit community. Close to Albany, NY and Pittsfield MA. Elementary schools are great. Middle School and High School are okay. Has a park for kids to play. It would be great to have a water pad at Willow Park. Could use more activities and places for kids to play and more restaurant choices. Has a lot of pizza shops and a few restaurants. The town has a few events each year. The Garlic Fest is one of the biggest events. That is worth going to and is family friendly.
