I've never met so many goobers in one place in all my life, even when I lived in the South. People play nice at first, then they turn into dicks. Most of the young people are neurotic. Walk around WWU for an afternoon. You can see it in their eyes. In other cities I've lived in I got text alerts for things like muggings and break ins. Here it's voyeurism and public masturbation. I'm paying money out the wazoo for this crap! Landlords, real estate agents, and property owners are trying to squeeze the last dime out of every living soul they meet, and on top of that, a head of cauliflower costs almost $10 at Haggen. Bellingham does have scenery and looks really nice when you come for first visit in the summer. Spend a little time here and you realize how messed up it is.

The housing market is really frustrating. A simple web search will show that the median home values and median rents that sites like this list are wrong. Median rent $959 in Bellingham? Seriously? Not true! Many landlords, like other reviewers say, are pretty abusive, especially the big rental companies. We were just forced to renew our lease with Apex six months before it expired. With 1% vacancy, we couldn't risk not being able to find another place when the time comes to look. I have heard similar stories from many people who live here.
Bellingham is almost as down-to-earth as it gets. At least from most the people I have interacted with (strangers to close friends) there is a huge pool of incredible shared values, some of them being: community, sustainability, and recreation.
There is so much to do here as well! Lots of hikes, biking routes, lakes, and local events that are even free so everyone can participate. The local economy is great, a lot of businesses source their products from the area, which makes me feel good about going out for dinner or getting a beer with friends knowing it goes back into the community.
