Belfast is located in a beautiful area and the town itself is very charming. While many coastal towns in Maine have a large summer population that shrinks dramatically in winter, Belfast has more of a year-round population and it always feels lively. The population skews older, but young families have been moving here more frequently in recent years. Unfortunately, the only movie theatre in town closed during the pandemic, and it does not boast much of a night scene. That said, there are plenty of opportunities for varied entertainment and activities, especially if you are a nature aficionado.
There are some great corporations and small businesses based out of Belfast, keeping the economy and job market healthy. While the housing market has become more expensive in recent years, cost of living expenses are relatively low compared with some other states in New England. All in all, Belfast is a safe, clean, lovely place to live with plenty of resources for year-round residents!

Belfast is a charming town on the coast of Maine. It has a very unique and quirky feel to it, attracting a verity of different people. From hippies, farmers, and artists, to truck-driving, snow-plowing lobstermen who are constantly boating in and out of the harbor. Belfast is a close-knit community. Many people here are retired and almost all stores close at 8pm or earlier, so those looking for a vibrant nightlife or a wealth of young adults will probably not find there niche here. Additionally, it is Maine, meaning that the racial diversity is essentially nonexistent. That being said, Belfast is an very welcoming area and a wonderful place to visit (which many people do in the summer). Weekly farmers markets and contra dances buzz with the wholesome energy of the town and bring the community closer together. There are also quite a few wonderful restaurants and shops in the “downtown” area. Overall, belfast is a beautiful, safe, scenic town that is great to visit or settle down.
Belfast is a small city on the mid-coast of Maine, in Waldo County. It has for a half century and more been a fisherman's harbor, shipping port, and Local business spot. It has waterfront parks, and walking paths, local taverns and family ran resturaunts, and shops. It is good for tourists traveling up the coast, and it has much beauty and sights for those who enjoy the sea and its surrounding atmosphere. I was born in Belfast, and I have no regrets, nor complaints about it. It does have less job and career oppurtunities than in the past, however it is in plausible distance of 3 other cities, and only 30 minutes from our State Capital, Augusta. I recommend it to anyone on vacation or wanting to take in some authentic Maine tradition and sights.
