Beaufort is a good place to live if you like fishing, boating and other water related activities. The local people are nice and down to earth. This area is quiet most of the time and offers many things to do. Front street has many good restaurants and shops to spend you money in. Along the water front are boats that can take you to nearby shackelford banks and the cape lookout lighthouse. Beaufort is a small fishing town that lives on tourism. It can be a great escape to a quieter place for people coming from bigger cities.
Review Beaufort
I love the small town atmosphere. Yet, there needs to be growth. The town has not grown since the 80's. Being a tourist destination, the town needs to add attractions for tourism. It is a beautiful town with a lot of history. It is documented as being Blackbeard's home (which the house still stands). The Beaufort Pirate Invasion the second Saturday of August every year is one of the biggest events in the area. If there was progression, this could be the perfect town in the USA.
As a young boy I grew up in Beaufort , NC. It's always been my home and I have always loved it. Although I am one of those who remember what it meant to grow up here. We started working with fathers commercial fishing as young as 5 or 6. But now times are changing, the industry that once built this county has been under attack for a number of years. It really breaks my heart to see an industry being pushed out for tourism. An industry that is a sustainable industry and has a great economic impact on the county tax base. I have returned to school to obtain my associates degree in aquaculture technology, in hopes that my son, as well as my nephews and cousins sons will have the same chance to learn what we did, and be able to have time for their families as well as provide a life that is better than the one we had. But I can say this, if not for working with my dad, I would not have the work ethic I have today.
