Born and raised in BC, lived in Florida 25 years, back in retirement. People here are NICE. Honest and hardworking for the most part. Lots of resources for older folks on limited income. Health care (hospitals) is iffy, go to Kalamazoo. Raise your kids away from the BC public school system if you want to avoid diversity. Not a lot to do! Downtown is coming back. Not many decent restaurants. Kalamazoo is worth the trip if you like a more sophisticated city that's still friendly, or Grand Rapids. Real estate is affordable but be careful, inventory is older. Roads are crappy but so are most roads in Michigan. Weather can suck. Peaceful, friendly people, but the suburbs are safer.

A lot of people down talk the city of Battle Creek...I on the other hand, have many fond memories of this town. I grew up south of Battle Creek and have 7 siblings who were always around and down to do something fun around town. We were homeschooled and always loved learning things about history especially if it had to do with the history of our town. We would explore different parts of Battle Creek and look up the history of the little shops and stores that have been in our town for years. My dad works for the city and has done many changes to the town which have made it more enjoyable for the public as well as people who are visiting. Overall I think Battle Creek is a great town with potential for more!
I like it here! The influx of Burmese nationals= Amazing Asian food.
If you move here, keep in mind how centrally located Battle Creek is... Don't complain that Battle Creek doesn't have a night club scene, we are not a college town. It is easy to drive anywhere that does have a party scene... Get involved in the community and enjoy some of our outdoor activities. We do have several bars and restaurants here. In fact, most restaurants are family owned and Vegan friendly. BC is adding new breweries down town and, BC has one of the only gay bars in West Michigan.
Don't knock it until you try it, Battle Creek is great!
