Working in Batavia
Batavia offers so many advantages to future college students. Genesee Community College is our local 2-year college which has a great variety of majors and provides many opportunities for students to choose to complete a 2-year degree and work nearby at the neighboring therapy clinic settings or a hospital setting. Also, transfer to a 4-year (2 + 2 program) college in any direction about 25 miles away (SUNY Brockport, SUNY Geneseo, Buffalo State, Rochester Institute of Technology). There are restaurants such as Applebee's, major stores like JCPENNEY'S, and craft/grocery stores like JoAnn's, Michael's and Walmart. Lake Ontario is close by as well as Lechworth State Park for recreation and camping. Batavia is a very safe place to live, to go to college, and also have access to nearby fun!
As a current resident of Batavia, New York, I have found that It is a great family friendly community that is changing every year! The school district is one of the best public school systems in the area, crime is near nonexistent. Since I was a child, I have always enjoyed the atmosphere, and the entertainment. There are amazing new restaurants, parks, churches, and retail stores popping up downtown. I would definitely consider living in Batavia. It is ideally located 30 minutes between Buffalo New York, and Rochester New York. Transportation is easy in Batavia as well. There are local bus and taxi services, as well as bike lanes and walking paths on almost every city street.
Batavia has a good amount of things to offer. For one, we have a lot of different stores. We have essentials like Walmart, Tops, etc. for groceries and such. We also have additional stores such as Target and Country Max for more "casual" shopping. Batavia also does have a large variety of restaurants to offer. We are very diverse with multiple chains, Chinese restaurants, Mexican restaurants, Italian restaurants, etc. One downfall is that we don't have that many sources of entertainment.
